Guys

I have been asked by a friend to fit a shower. He currently has 6mm but as it is 9.5kw shower will need to fit a 10mm.

However he has an ols Square D board and does not reall want to upgrade board. I was thinking of installing a small oneway Shower RCD.

I intend to run new tails from the existing meter block to the RCD unit. I was thinking of using 16mm tails is this acceptable??

Also will upgrade Gas & Water Bonds.

If I am only touching this individual circuit am I responsible for RCD protecting the lighting etc in bathroom

It is acceptable to install a shower CU with RCD and suitably rated MCB.
The size of your meter tails is dependant on the size of your cutout fuse. I usually use 25mm as this takes care of all up to 100a. Your earth connection to your shower CU must be at least 50% csa of your supply tails.

You are not responsible for any other electrical installation in the property, just the circuit you are working on, however you should bring to attention anything which looks dodgy.

I maybe wrong but i have a gut instinct that you are either a DIY'er or just starting out in the game ( I dont have a problem with either). Just in case, are you aware that this work is notifiable, and you must issue an EIC for the work. If iam wrong then i appologise.

Cheers.........Howard

Do the job close to your assesment date then notify once you have passed the assesment. Which of course. You will :);)

One more question

Was planning to connect Shower RCD via henley block, but he currently has two CU's one for his extension. Can I connect his shower rcd unit out of the meter block as well??
