Hi, I was asked to look at fault today were shocks were being recieved whilst someone was using a shower. It did not occur constantly but when i was there I could find voltage between Earth and the screen this voltage went from 50v upto 150v gradually as the shower was switched on. there was also continuity between the earth when seperated from the appliance and the screen.(the screen is not bonded) I/R showed >299 between all conductors and cpc. I took the screws out of the frame but continuity still existed. But once I but back all equipemnt and turned on to see if still there the volts had gone. this fault seems to go and come back! I have bonded this to the earthed water pipe as when i got there linking the screen to the pipe tripped the rcd.

Does anyone have any thoughts as I would be gratful for any input

regards.

Hi shower is situated in a fibregalss tray. bonded it to local pipework and checked continuity to met.
the volts have gone from this area but never found source of earth leakage still want to find the beast.

regards

Hi we had a similar situation with a back door of a new house the door was plastic but the metal handle was giving 152 volts when shut if opened the voltage dropped. I found if you tested the brick work when it was wet you got the same voltage, SEC checked supply but we reconned it was just an earth path to the TNCS stak in the road. Was this house a TNCS/PME supply because if the shower is on the outside wall it could track between the cavity wall.
To solve our problem we insulated the door frame and it prity much went. I also tried the same experiment at another property that was TNCS and we had the same thing on the brick work.
