Been through chapter 53,and 701 deals only with specs and zones, and am I right in saying that no mention is made to a requirement for a shower isolator, or indeed if installed where it should be,IE, should be in or just outside the bathroom, I know usuall practice is to include one we all do, however if it is not fitted a C3 would suffice, I await opinions.

But using the MCB and not a local 45 amp double pole switch is frowned upon by the vast majority of Electricians here, we don't like the regs regarding shower switches, it is a grey area which needs improvement, an MCB isn't good enough in our opinion and it is a subject that has been debated and heavily over the last few years.

its an isolator for maintenance not an on off switch. you can use the mcb instead if you want.

but then you'll turn off the fan, lights, shaver socket, vanity unit, jacuzzi, next door's shed, and whatever else some muppet has wired into the shower. :biggrin5:

The 8kW hob will stay on though as that will be straight off a plug top!

Ok no above ceiling access, any wall that falls within "reasonable distance" is covered in Italian marble, hall is done in wallpaper at £300 quid a roll, do you think the customer is going to let you any where near it with a hole saw, no ? me neither, so seriously tho I think in the linen cupboard with a DP iso will do dont you all agree,

Nothing wrong with a surface 45 amp double pole switch in a cupboard close to the shower if all else fails mate.

Yes I agree, but how is "close" defined, 7671 has more grey areas, than I have grey hairs

I think we are allowed to use a bit of our own judgement Pict.

If BS7671 had to have a definition for everything it would be twice as large! It just needs to be close, you choose how close :smile5:

If they can afford all that then I'm sure they can afford to have a proper shower fitted not a crappy electrically heated one!

I generally try to have the isolator within 2 meters. Most of the time they have been installed practically within the foot print of they bath as its generally next to the door.
