I've just been reading a thread on another forum which seems to be showing that Siemens meters don't differentiate between exported energy and used energy. It adds the 2 figures together so the customer ends up paying for the 5 kwh they use AND the 20kwh they generated on the same day.

I haven't heard anythihng like this before but the installers are getting a bit of a slating for not knowing about it.

Has anyone else had experience of this ??????

All Siemens meters or specific models?

I know some of their import/export models are programmable and can be set to add the two values together (used as an anti-tampering device where export is not expected) - but the two values are actually stored internally separately.

If it is this then the real values can be extracted, the meter re-programmed and the customer refunded the right amount.

S2AS-100, or Siemens S1AS-100 - it's the anti tampering bit that's an issue apparently and not all of the meters are doing it. The problem is that the utility companies are really "switched on" sorry about the pun - to the problem and don't believe the meter is doing this. A Shade Greener have discovered about 20 of their installations are doing this - pretty disasterous for a rent a roof customer!

In theory they should be able to get their money back from the utility but the posts I've read so far don't seem to be having much success. Some of the customers are putting fan heaters on to use up the generated electric so that the meter isn't clocking up during the sunny days we're having.
