Single phase connection from three phase input

Hi all,

I have a three phase mains input in my house. I suppose the builder installed this to cater for high kW power usage. However, I do not have any need for such high power input. Is it allowable to use only one of the three phase inputs L1, L2 and L3 since all my equipment in the house are all single phase devices and I can do with only L3 for example. L1 and L2 goes off from time to time whereas L3 is on all the time steadily.

How big is your house, do you have heavy heating loads etc, if you have a bog standard house semi size or terrace then i cant see why you need 3-phase and 1-phase should be adequate in this case get your local supplier to blank off 2 phases as you will be paying a higher tarriff for something you dont need, but as i say it depends on how big your house is, and make sure you have no three phase equipment, e.g. pump motors, big kitchen oven or commercial sized washers and dryers.

I take it that you only have a 3phase cutout (which is quite common) as otherwise you would have a 3 phase db db in property?
