I have a problem with a EDR 25 diagonal fan. I wired in the fan to the wiring diagram ie live and neutral. When I turned it on nothing happened. I checked the voltage at the switch, on the live side of the switch there was 240v. When the switch was turned on the 240v dissapeared! Thinking there was a problem with the fan I got a new fan and the same problem occured. Any ideas? Thanks

It has to be a loose connection,if you have voltage when there is no load and then lose it under load then thats the answer.just go back and check the live and neutrals from wherever they start, normally the ceiling rose, and work forward towards the fan, give them a gentle tug one may be loose or broken.

I have dropped the neutal from the motor and tested the voltage with the switch on and with the neutral disconnected from the motor there is 240v. Its only when the neutral is connected to the motor that the voltage drops off

Exactly, that means its a loose connection, are you new to sparking?

The switch is fine, checked continuity. It's not a loose connection! If the neutral is connected to the motor 'tightly' the voltage drops off. With the neutral disconnected from the motor and tested there is still voltage

Stick a flex and plug on the fan and plug it in a socket to test it, at least you'll know it's not the fan, as it's not the fan.

I’m fascinated now. How in the name of god does a LED (don’t you mean a neon) rob all the voltage from a motor circuit, unless you connected it in series!

Pull the other one, it’s got bells on it.
