[ElectriciansForums.net] Single Pole Phase Test??Hello Forum, when the circuit is live the arrowed L.E.D. lights up, buzzes and the voltage is displayed. When the circuit is isolated at the consumer unit, i.e. m.c.b. turned off and I touch the red (+) probe to the line conductor the arrowed L.E.D. lights up and buzzes. Why does it do this and what does it tell me? Buzzing and illuminating indicates to me that power is in the system even though I know it's dead.

Please describe what is happening as I am rather confused.

Many thanks :ihih:

Might seem a daft question, you are testing at the ceiling rose, yes? are you sure you have turned off the correct circuit breaker?

Inductance is a possibility turn the board off completely this should stop the meter picking it up... also all this is explained in the leaflet/instructions that came with the tester.. too many people just throw this away thinking its all too simple to warrant reading the instructions... then hey presto another user confused!.... :6:

Well either way i still believe induction is been picked up hence the light buzzer but no voltage registered ... you can check this with a good quality multimeter to ensure their isn't and voltage as probe testers are not the best thing as they are usually built quite cheaply and prone to confusing responses... your buzzer may be sounding because you testers see a a circuit .. if your main switch is still on then you may be paralleled up with another load and N/E would be seen as one by your testers as they are joint together upstream of your dist board hence the main switch needs to be off or physically remove all the circuit wires from the dist board before testing.
