hi guys am wiring a new build and am wondering what is the best cable to run from a sky tv dish and would it be a good idea to run 2 from dish..am running to splitter and then branching off to all rooms in the house..there are at least ten tv outlets in the house in seperate rooms...i have RG6 cable from splitter to all rooms..from splitter to dish would RG6 do or should i get something else..also any info on what type of splitter would be great or even info on some website with pictures and procedures...a:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

You can't just run the cable from the dish to a splitter.
You need a special sort of splitter (called a multiswitch) for satellite, and a Quad LNB with 4 cables to the multiswitch.

Then you'd need a satellite receiver in each room.

For a twin tuner box like sky+, you need 2 cables to each room.
And a multiswitch to cater for so many outputs is getting expensive...

Cable type CT100 is generally used for single runs, CT63dual for dual runs, although it is in fact a lower spec cable but more than adequate.
RG6 will be fine too.

If however you just want to distribute the output of the satellite receiver to many rooms, you can route that through the aerial distribution amplifier.

For small domestic installations, consider the loftbox units though they cater for only one twin-tuner box.

A couple of examples:
On one I did, I wired the living room for sky+. That box served the main TV only.
There was another box upstairs (basic sky box) which was routed through the TV/FM/DAB distribution system to 6 rooms. Due to the layout of the house, this was all done with discrete outdoor splitters - one 3-way on the back, one 3-way on the front and a 2-way next to the single-output distribution amplifier.
Remote return was specifically not wanted, so the kids could not play remote wars changing the channel on each other!

On another, I wired the system so that the output of the main sky+ box (no second box this time) was distributed to every room. Remote return was wanted this time, so I chose a proception ProAmp28R.

Simon.

yes there are multi switches with inbuilt signal balancing amplifier, the ones with 12 outputs cost about 90 quid and plug into the mains, need to be put in a cupboard somewhere out of the way, then its just running the cable through the walls to plates, there are some nice ones(wall plates) in Screwfix with 2 and 3 outputs, so you can put a Sky TV, a Terestrial Ariel and a DAB Digital Radio one as well...think they are about a fiver each (nice brushed steel ones in there too)
