Hello!! I'm currently a Panel wiring apprentice but want to become an electrician. I'm doing 2330 C&G at college, recently passing level 2. I'm confused as to what further units at level 2 + 3 I'll need to take to become an electrician. The other thing that's confusing me is that all my certs say "Electrotechnical Panel Building", does this make a difference? My tutor at college has said that I'll need to sit 2 more units at level two but he hasn't told me what they are :confused5:

Hope you can help shed some light on this for me.
Cheers:smile:

Howdy! At the moment, you need:

-C&G lvl 2 & 3 2330 electrotechnical technology
PLUS
-NVQ3 in electrotechnical technology
PLUS
-AM2

that's the minimum to send off for JIB recognition, you may also need the 17th ed course too, though maybe not, i hear different things from different folk all the time (some say you don't need the AM2 but i wouldn't rely on that kind of info). Things may be changing though (the 2330 is being renamed, someone else may know the course number). Get the C & G lvl 2 and 3 out of the way first, and see where things are at as your finishing your level 3...

Thanks for the swift reply pal. I'm working towards my NVQ in Electrical engineering, Transformer assembly, would i need an NVQ in electrotechnical technology aswell? Also, do you know what units of the 2330 are needed?

I have no idea if the JIB (at the moment) would accept electrical engineering NVQ's or not, the best folk to ask are... the JIB ;) (phone them on 020 8302 0031)

As for the 2330 lvl 2 and 3, so far as i'm aware there is only one 2330 lvl2 and one 2330 lvl3, so all the units in those courses are needed IF the NVQ in elec engineering would not be accepted. If i remember right the 2330 lvl2 was 6 or 7 units, the lvl3 was 3 or 4 units.

Speak to someone at the JIB first and see where you stand with what your doing and what you need to be doing. (also ask where you can head with the courses your doing now, they may lead somewhere good even if the JIB won't recognise them for a spark. There are other electrical jobs out there!)

So far I have done Units 1,2,3 and 8 at level 2 i believe. Think i need to do the Unit for at this level aswell, would this be right?
Thanks Mark I'll get in touch with them and see what they say:smile:

When i did the 2330 lvl 2 im certain there was no unit 8 (not sure exactly how many units, probably as Paul says 1 to 6)

as i don't know what it is your doing, i can't say if it's right or not, so speak to the JIB and people at your college, they'll be able to advise you much better than i can.
