A few quarries we look after have slip ring motor soft starters, vectrohm is the brand. So far we have been leaving them to run and only looking at them when they give trouble. A few of them have been playing up recently so i'm looking to service them all. I totally understand what they do, but i'm struggling to find any recommended maintenance programmes for them. Does anyone know any UK/Ireland stockists of parts? I'm assuming the anti-freeze solution in the boxes is fine but i'm reckoning it may need topped up with the 'soda powder' solution every so often?
Anyone any experience in this field?

you need tony for this one, mate. no doubt he'll be on soon. wouldn't be surprised if he's got the service manuals for them.

Unless some of the electrolyte has been emptied out at some point and water added to weaken it should be OK. Normally the rating plate will show the specific gravity required. Only the water evaporates leaving a stronger electrolyte, this should be topped up with de-ionised water as required.
This isn’t a make I’ve come across before. Could you post some pictures?

thanks tony, what other make of soft starts are out there? any ones we have encountered have been vectrohm, they are a french company, their english isn't so good! that maintenance checklist makes sense, might struggle to persuade the clients to change all the electolyte every 3 years though it costs about 800euro a pop! i don't have any pics of the complete unit just a pic of the nameplate

Thanks for the email tony, yeah I've seen some messes in slip ring chambers. I'm employed by a motor rewind company, I look after all the outside work. Big problem with some if the slip ring motors I've seen is dust from broken rock entering the slip ring chamber(chamber not sealed properly), once it gets below the brush it quickly wrecks the ring and brush!
