Hi guys, gotta price a supply to a water heater and run a supply to 3 double sockets in a small room in a unit. It's a 3 phase board, no RCD protection. The DB is just outside the room in question. All cabling is gonna be surface. Can I put in PVC trunking and do both circuits have to be RCD protected? Thanks

what are the sockets to be used for? you can choose whatever system you want, as long as its suitable for the environment. I would say that you want the water heater to be RCVD protected, but others may disagree.

question is the use of the sockets and water heater. if used by skilled or instructed persons, no requirement for RCD, unless sockets can be used for outdoor equipment.

the reason i think you need an RCD for the water heater, is that the elemnts are known to degrade, and as such leak to earth. Also they are usually sited right next to a sink.

Metal trunking from board for most of way. I would like to make sure I get this job cause there has been other quotes. But at the same time stay within the regs ( obviously )It's an old 3 phase board (pull out fuses) so I would have to put a small board next to it with Rcd main switch and 2 mcb's.Does the two circuits deffinatly have to be rcd Protected? Due to the layout of the building there is no chance of the sockets being used to supply any outside equipment.

so, use a RCD main switch in your sub-main. that will tick all possible boxes.

Fitted a three phase instant water heater and two single phase hand wash water heaters recently and both manufacturers had RCD requirement in instructions.

so, use a RCD main switch in your sub-main. that will tick all possible boxes.

I'd agree with this, considering the cost of a small RCD protected board.

Well and truly off topic:

I notice Tel. you have recently gone from a 'Serial Poster' to an 'appreciated Member', I thought that type of recognition was only given to retired honoured members? I suppose in line with the ancients the next label will be 'Embalmed Member' ?:joker:
