Got a customer with a smart meter installed a few months ago and although he's generating ok from his pv the electric bill isn't reducing. The bill hasn't increased significantly and the gen meter is clocking up fine so although I can't get to it until Tuesday I'm sure we haven't had a blond moment with the gen meter (although it was in the feeding frenzy up to Dec 12th). Has anyone had any problems like this with smart meters? Customer rang British Gas who installed the meter - clueless. His smart meter is showing 200w even when he's only using base load for freezer etc which suggests it's not set up to take the generated electric back in - any thoughts????
 
200W is a fairly standard baseload - central heating pumps, valves, controls, stuff on standby, fridge, freezer etc. You'd need to be switch the entire consumer unit off so there should be no consumption to be sure.

Could be that they've set the meter up wrong though, and it's clocking up the units in both directions as being consumption, which if he was using around 50% of what was generated would show up as being no real difference to the bill.
