Hi all!

Wondering if anyone can save us from our smoke alarm nightmare? We have a mains ionising smoke alarm, I'm not sure what the manufacturer or model is as there seems to be no branding on the alarm. The issue is that the alarm is intermittenly beeping, and intermitently means once an hour, then a couple of times a day or night, its very random, there seems to be no pattern to it. We've hoovered it out a number of times and its driving us mad. Its a relatively new alarm as the house was only built 2 and 1/2 years ago so I'm wondering if it could be the batteries or theres a fault.

Can anyone give advice on what we can do?

Thanks so much

well, try changing the batteries first. make sure there's not a breaker in the CU that's in the OFF position. if neither of these, get a local spark to check them and replace if necessary.

It sounds like the battery so you must have mains/battery backup sensors now check again to see if there is a name on them as one type twists off and another you need to insert a screwdriver into a slot in the side and then slide it off

Remember to isolate them before you attempt to remove

Change the backup batteries on all alarms and check the indicator lights show normal to indicate they have mains power. Consult your instructions if in any doubt.

It may be worth checking all detectors are fully clicked home and are conected to mains supply via their fly lead (if they have one) as this can cause it to do this with some makes to warn you of power failure, failing that change all batteries as suggested.
