Not sure if this is in the right section but I've had someone aske me if I could issue a smoke alarm certificate for them. It's a loft conversion where another electrician has installed mains smoke detectors but can't sign it off because he's not part P apparently.
So how would you go about putting a smoke detector certificate to somebody else's work what's involved in signing it off?
Cheers

Hum, you say you think that another non Part P electrician has installed the mains interlinked smoke alarm? Did the same person do the lights and sockets?

First port of call would be the technical help line of your scheme.

I'd tread carefully if I were you.

He's done the lights I believe.
What cert would I have to complete for him then because I can't put my name to design and installation just the commission, would I need the guy who's installed to sign that part or anything?
I don't normally take on other peoples work I don't like putting my name to their job.

You can't issue a cert for something you haven't done. How do you know that the cables are in the correct zones etc.

Where will the brown stuff end up if someone dies as a result of non performance of the smoke alarms. I can tell you it wont be on the head of the bloke who fitted them. Not worth it for the sake of a few quid.

Dont touch it mate! he should of got in a registered sparky!

no-body who goes through all the ball ache of being part P registered should sign off other peoples work!

and besides its your neck if the worst happens!

thanks everyone for your replies, looking at our NIC forms, theyre a one page sheet which signing covers all design installation and commissioning so i definitely wont be doing it for him i'll tell him i'm not willing to take responsibility for somebody else's work!
