smoke detection needed?

can someone please tell me if i have to install smokes when i am changing consumer unit and instaling l new conservatory ring and lighting?? customer not keen on extra cost and work

No you don,t my mate if its an oldish dwelling, only new builds are compelled to have detection.

Its also a recommendation on a refurbishment. So if you rewire its good to put them in, i dont ask on rewires anyway i just put them into quote and fit them.

If they have had plans drawn up and planning permission check the plans because in my neck of the woods most big home improvements specify smoke alarms to be fitted to LD3 requirements, and if they arent it wont get signed off by BC.

Yes my mate, we qoute em as well but on old building rewires its up to the client, although we never skimp on safety vary rarely and it has happened where they have declined our offer and asked us to remove them from our qoute, albeit very foolish on there part.
