Full RCBO board, would you put them on the lighting circuit or on their own RCBO?

Thanks in advance

I would put them on their own if possible. I heard in a debate of a few of us that if they go on the lighting circuit that they need to have a spur as an isolation point. Don't agree with it thou. I believe they should be on the lighting circuit so people can't switch them off if they have problems with them

Not sure if you are for or aginst. You have said at begining put them on their own, then at the end put them on the lighting?

I always put them on the lighting for the same reasons you said.

On my last NIC inspection i asked same question, he prefered having them on their own circ but did not say it was wrong to put them on the lighting circ.

I normally put them on their own RCBO. Both methods are fine and I suppose if they are on a well used lighting circuit, they should always be switched back on if it trips. Each to their own. Battery back up should kick in anyway (If they have changed them for working batteries!).

Annual debate between me and my Elecsa assessor. He says put them on a dedicated circuit, I prefer them being on a well used lighting circuit. theres merits in each argument so just go with what feels right to you.

Mains powered units are battery back up so if power was lost the battery can take over and give an warning chirp of the power loss and they can last several months on their backup battery, they are acceptable to put on a lighting circuit that is in common use in domestic because loss of the lighting will be noticed and power restored what you shouldn't do is tag onto lighting where its tripping may go unnoticed like loft lights or cellar lights if they are independant of other lighting circuit.

SMOKES......well i quite like lambert & butler......tend to smoke drum quite a bit at work though....
No seriously guys.....i would put smokes n heats on the lighting circuit.....but with a means of isolation from the rest of the lighting circuit....that way you have RCD protection...but also have an indication when theres a power loss to the smokes n all......no lighting...no smokes....

Sorry, to clarify,
If it was a new install I would put them on there own circuit.
If I was to put them in the lighting circuit on a new install I would spur them off giving a means off isolation

If I had to add smokes to a house with minimal damage I would just have them on a lighting circuit.

going back, many years. we had a shilling a day for school meals. friday was fish ( 1 catholic boy in a class of 36 ), so the shilling bought 5 park drive with 1 & 1/2p change.
