Can anyone recommend 'snaplite' downlights? I'm having to add and replace some original 'snaplite' fittings and have noticed they're only available from an out of date website. In comparison they seem very expensive to other 'quality' downlights.

Its just they need to be matched, or replaced. You can buy direct from Snaplite at £17.50 each. Our local electrician says they retail at around £45.00 each and can supply at £25.00 plus fitting. I'm not sure I should replace all the downlights with similar (8), or the electrician!

hang on, from your last post, i take it that you are not an electrician, but a home owner, wanting to replace lights in your own home. if that is the case, you are doing a like for like replacement and, if you are competent to do the job yourself, then there is nothing to stop you. don't get me wrong. i would not advocate an untrained person to take on work requiring installing and testing by a qualified electrician, but from what you say, the job is no diferrent than replacing a defective pendant or socket outlet. if you feel you can do the job properly, do so.

Correct, I am a home owner and could probably do the job myself. Most other lights seem half the price of the ones I need to match, and it may be cheaper to replace them all. However, would I be replacing the existing the lights with a inferior quality?

buy the snaplites yourself, as you have seen £17.50, then decide whether to do it yourself or pay an electrician a couple of hour's labour. if it were me, i would charge around £40-£50 for labour only, assuming that there was no remedial work on the wiring.
