Chaps,

We've recently installed some panels on a roof above a conservatory. The customer has rightly asked me about the effects the panels will have on snow falling from the roof.

I'm thinking the snow load will be lessened as it's more likely to come off the panels before it gets too deep. But maybe that's a bad thing cos it will all come down onto the conservatory..

Do you have any thoughts or experience or info on installing snow guards? Thinking something like Snowguards | Roofing Supplies | Building Products | McArthur Group

For structural cals purposes, snow load will be the same, however wether the panel is more slippery or not you'd need to test.

Panels of course don't produce a lot when covered in snow :( , and some snowy days are the brightest in winter ... Some inverters can reverse feed to heat up the panels and melt the snow :)

My solar panels were covered for 4 days this week, producing no kwh.and when it did finally fall on the conservatory roof it was no worst than than any other time.so I reckon your conservatory roof should be fine.hope this puts your mind at rest:carolers:
