Not sure if this has been discussed...can anyone else see where the issues lie with this? Ever seen a sw/fused spur, a 20A switch or a 3 gang 2 way light switch on a 20mm back box chock full with cables inside? How many times you nicked a live conductor while screwing it back? Where does liability sit if a builder starts poking around trying to push cables into place (whilst live) and gets a nasty belt?Even if this does work, I'm not sure it's a product I'd use.So long second-fix? | Professional Electrician & Installer

Like you say, there are far too many issues to use this product as the manufacturer is intending.

I can see it now "Right mr builder, that's me second fixed. You can plaster decorate and tile, and when you have done you just need to carry out safe isolation and screw back every accessory in the house. See ya !"

That's gonna go down like a fart in a lift.

far to much risk of leaving the spark open to a prosecution for my liking, say whoever secures the fronts causes the earth to drop out, then some months later someone gets a belt from a faulty piece of kit, socket found to have no earth and nobody has touched install since work carried out.Straight away it's poor sparky in the dock.

so what about yoozy boxes. i'd always go back to refit the accessories once plaster/decor had been finished, if only to reclaim the yoozy boxes and the extra long 3.5mm screws for future use.

What a load of toot!, seems like people just invent things for the sake of it nowadays

just do the final fix after its painted, i would never install chrome etc faceplates until all the messsy stuffs done u just asking for trouble

And hopefully any decent painter will unscrew the sockets a little or use masking tape or both

Or just leave a margin in your price for a final return visit, if you dont get the call you get to keep the money, everyones a winner, i pretty much do this on all jobs anyway as theres allways some idiot who messes something up

The point about the ones in the OP are that they are disposable and marketed as a solution to having to go back and screw back accessories.

" Electrium have a solution that they say eliminates the second-fix entirely."
"By using a Safety Shield on each of the wiring accessories, an installer can do both the first and the second fixes at the same time, or put another way, get rid of the second fix altogether."

What a load of rubbish !

Would any sparky with any sense do a first and second fix in a new build or refurbishment and then not return - I don't think so, so what a load of tosh!!!!!

I do hope Electrium are reading this because I'd like to understand their market research prior to launch!

basically...its a load of old cac....

you price in for return to second fix....its just our way of life.....if you cant cope with it then go join barry bathroom fitter....or something like that..
