Hi like to know if I can put a double socket in a bathroom for washer and dryer, it will be in a cupboard on top of eachother with a door that can be locked with the door swinging against the bath( makes sense? ) because the bath is the otherside of wood partion , I know about the 3 metre rule but technically with the door in the way it's more than 3 metres away any info on this would be great thanks in advance.

Hi Delboy,
if its one of those moulded plug tops, then yes it will void the warranty if you cut it.
Hope this helps,
Sav

I would have thought it depends on the warranty.
Obviously loads of factors need to be taken into consideration, such as whether or not the washer and drier are even suitable for use in a bathroom; if the manufacturers have deemed them suitable, why would they then void the warranty if wired to an FCU?

I think they would void the warranty as you are re doing the wiring configuration. As in it comes with a moulded plug top and suitable fuse inside it. You chop off the plug top and rewire into an fcu with say incorrect fuse or incorrect wiring, then something in the appliance blows, you want an exchange, they say no as you have "messed" around with wiring.
I know, stupid, but thats what I have been led to believe and gone along with.
Best regards,
Sav

Best option is to have a yale lock with a reinforced door and ip rated socket in this cupboard just in case while your in the bath u might want to acces cupboard for shampoo etc.

If a supplier refused me warranty for cutting a plug off i'd start fireworks like it was the beginning of November. If the unit was wired wrong and they are an electrical company they would be able to tell you it's been wired wrong from the reason it does not work, then voiding your warranty. I'm sure they have no ground's legally with regards to this also..?
