So i did the consumer unit swap today and as usual start with testing the circuits one by one and after last one i realized that i forgot about one socket on the hallway. At that time all cables where out of consumer unit. So i cross connect L-E and went to do R1+R2 just to find out that socket is live. It is maisonette and seems like when they convert it they forget to remove one socket. I could not get in to the other flat so left it for now. Customer is aware and i told her not to use it. I am planing to come back and blank it for now and put note on it. Am i right thinking it will be other resident responsibility to get that disconnected from her side at her own cost? Anybody come across that in the past?

you could be opening a big can of worms there when next door realises they have been paying for heating the neighbours hall for 30 years!!

While the "free electric" is attractive it could backfire massively (as James mentioned) in a legal sense, and also it is a serious safety risk.

Many home owners would simply thrown the main isolator switch and assume that everything is now dead to work on it.

Out of curiosity, how would this be coded on an EICR? To me it must be C2 at least, but it is not a very common thing to see.

Yes. Seriously. This does need addressed, but how you go about admitting to your neighbour youve been stealing leccy of them for years... i dont know..

Possibility of being on a different phase as well... unlikely, but not impossible

I guess you either say it only came to light when testing, or lie a little by saying as a hall socket it was hardly ever used.

Ask your local MP, they know all about how to lie to the population...

Any lights going on and off for no reason? Switches in room that you dont know what they do?
Nothing suspicious. One fcu for bathroom fan and towel rail and rest is just sockets and lights, only 4 circuits 1x kitchen ring, 1x sockets ring, 1x sockets radial probably extended from old immersion heater and 1x lights, impedances seems appropriate to length of the circuits
