Hi all
just a quick one, what is the best way to install two sockets in lounge for table lamps only as the owner wants them switched from a double switch plate. do i feed off the downstairs lighting ring and put a fused spur in line before the sockets with a 3A fuse to stop the lighting circuit being overloaded by plugging the wrong things in to the sockets (as people do) or should i feed them from the downstairs ring main through a fused spur then up to the switch plate ? .... any suggestions would be aprreciated as i normally do commercial

I would wire them from the downstairs lighting circuit and fit 5amp sockets. No need for spur units. Nothing else can be plugged into the 5amp socket by mistake.

Hi RallyAndy,
My first post on the site so i hope i don't get shot down in flames......

For the outlet plates would suggest you use 3pin round (5A) socket - you would need to install matching plug on lamps. I would personally use the lighting circuit. If you decide to use a 13A FCU from the ringmain it would need to have a 3a fuse & also be labelled to only use 3A fuses ( but would not stop somebody else changing it later to a 13A) then your 1.5mm cable & switch could be in serious danger.
Regards.

Thanks for your suggestions guys, didn't know they still made round pin lol..... think that is the best way to go as you suggest hawk81. as you and pn125 say it will mean i can feed from downstairs lighting without worrying about someone overloading in the future. many thanks both of you

Hi just wired lighting sockets in today mate i have loop in loop out at light switches so just run through the switch and on to the sockets use ready made light sockests and plugs they are around ÂŁ 5.oo each from electricfix ( screwfix )

The 3A fuse is there to protect the current lighting. For additional power you connect from the non protected 3A fuse side.
