Hi all

I'm looking for some help on a query I have.

I'm currently involved with a new build with the plan to fit Solar in the very near future, which I have never installed before or had any experience.

The plan is to fit a 3.4kw system and i wanted to put in the cable ready from where the inverter will be positioned down to the consumer unit, it will have a run of approximately 7 mtrs.

The query I have is, can I use standard 4mm2 grey T&E cable from the inverter down to the meter, then to the consumer unit, or do I need to use special Solar Cable?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

Kind regards

Steve

Hi Steve - I am in the middle of a similar installation (I am an engineer not an electrician). My issue was the battery cables must be short (very large currents) which means the inverter is 6 meters from the meter. If the tails are more than 3m a fused switch must be installed. Your electrician will advise on the type of tails you need.
From my inlet to my house the tails are 15m - an armoured cable that runs in a conduit from the garage to the house.
