I am looking into MCS accreditation and am wondering about the meter. Do you need a digital or analogue meter? I have bought one off ebay but dont know how to connect the line and neutrals? The inverter has a 3 pin plug coming off it wired in standard 13 amp flex. I have only ever seen meter tales entering these meters so bit puzzled as to what to do? Please see pictures attached.

What is the purpose you are using the meter for? Recording power return to the Grid?

If that's the case surely you want the meter fitting before the dis board. Also I've seen it where you have two meters fitted. One wired correctly and one wired backwards. Then you can work out what you are putting back in.

You don't seem to be very cluded up on this which is a worry....

With all respect, I think you are wrong as every diagram I have seen shows the second meter between the inverter and the ac isolator.

The meter best position would be as it comes out of the distribution board, ie next to the original meter.
The government will only buy it back if it is all commisioned by the right people, who will obviously secure it. And even then they only buy back (at the moment) half of what appears on that meter, as they assume you have used one half of the power generated, which imo is VERY generous.
As for wiring it up each one is different, however you must remember that you wire it backwards...mains=solar panel side, load=distribution board, most of the ones i have seen will go 1. Solar Live 2. Solar Neutral 3. CU Neutral 4. CU Live, but dont take my word for it.

You'll only receive FIT payments if your system is registered through MCS. You need to wire the meter so that it records the total power generated by your system (between inverter and db). You are then paid 41.3p* per Kwh generated and an extra 3p* per Kwh exported. This is assumed to be 50% of total generation but you can opt for an additional export meter next to your import meter.
The generation meter and export meter are wired the opposite way to normal.

* I think these figures have risen slightly to take inflation into account

Edit - just seen this is going to be for MCS accreditation. It might be an idea to do 2372 or a similar course to get an understanding of the basics
