I had a call from a chap today who owns a holiday cottage with a PV array which he says trips the RCD on his sockets occasionally. The house was rewired 7 years ago and he says it's only since he had the PV put in that it now trips the RCD. I won't be able to look at the job until he is down at the weekend so I'm just looking for a heads up if anyone has any experience of this happening and what I should be looking out for.

One to check, check that the RCD is designed to cope with pulsating DC currents, some PV inverters can put out a strange waveform. The RCD may have also come senstive over time so do a ramp test and do an earth leakage current test in situ.

It will be a transformerless inverter, and yes they do trip RCDs, due to leakake currents up to 100mA.
