Just looking for some advise on export control. We have a single phase supply and looking to install a 50kw solar PV system but the DNO are restricting what we can export. This leaves us in a predicament and they have suggested we use an EMMA unit with export control made by coolpower or upgrade the lines both of which are very costly. Is there any other similar products to the EMMA unit on the cheaper end of the scale that comply with the DNO?

You also need an energy sink to use up the energy you don't want to export, with a 50kW system thats potentiallly a lot of energy to 'burn'. You got a swimming pool to heat?

EMMA is the one that springs to mind, export control occurs quite regularly in Eire, France and Germany - why not contact your inverter manufacturer to see what's available, I know that SMA are working on something / may have developed something already.

as far as I know EMMA is the only way... rather costly as you say, but if you can find a way to use the power (heat) then it's not all bad. DNO's are starting to approve EMMA as a flicker-free, reliable way to cap export so it's good to hear they have pointed you that direction.

Have you actually talked to the DNO about how often they would limit export, and bear in mid you on site consumption... I met with 5 DNO's yesterday and all are keen to talk and find a solution so long as you approach them.
