Hi guys, i am planning to move house and build my own with probably a 4KW system. I would take the MCS through Napit and use my own house as the first install so i properly get the hang of it. Anyway my existing house needs to be sold first and its taking its time. So i was thinking is it practical to install PV for my existing house and then transfer it to the new one. Secondly would it be worth it to do MCS and go for FIT for my existing house knowing i would be moving in less than a year or so. I would be happy to install it and just get the output from the PV without FIT and then apply for FIT when its transferred to the new house.

thoughts ?

depends how long the old house takes to sell, but be aware, you wont be able to transfer the system if its already registered for fits on the old house. if you move it its classed as second hand and only new equipment can be registered.

How about installing a small 2 panel system on your present house to gain your mcs and remove it when you leave? Then spend the money on a 4kwp system on your new house where you can benefit from the fit?

Thanks for the quick replies, sort of worst of both worlds then if i cannot re-use my system and get fits for the new house, then i would be daft i guess to consider it.
Interesting idea of just a small one to get through MCS,
I wasn't planning to go big into solar just add it too what i already do (and TBH mainly for my own use...

Why not do it on the house of a family member or close friend? Preferably one with a bungalow, up-to-date electrics and nice concrete tiles? Charge them a fair price and then everything will be legit. You can create your templates and QMS at the same time.

or pay for it to go on a relatives house and take the feed in tariff yourself as a rent a roof?

Hi sedgy, what does that mean? put 2kw on existing and use that to add to another 2kw for the new house ?

Put a2kw Pv system on your house for the MCS and add 7k to the sale of your house for it
when you move you have 7k for a 4kw system for your new house.(that's if you don't spend it on the build)
