hi there, just wiring a house for a friend, inside all first fixed. Now he has asked me about a floodlight to light his garden up, i was going to put a son t floodlight in on a PIR for the path, he has now said he is having electric gates at the end of the path, he now wants this son t to activate when the electric gates operate, and also so he can switch this off and on at lesuire from the house. could anyone give me any advice on wiring this? also it is a 67metre long path so was keen to use say a 4 core armour and use adiabatic eqyuation to calculate seperate earth to possibly save costs if the wiring would allow this?

he is also asking for a cctv system on the gate and a callpad etc.......thats not really thing though but thought would mention

thanks for any help

Is SON really your best choice for this job? The strike time to full brightness will be a problem. You certainly cannot use SON with a PIR. I would go for LED or high power CFL, Halogen may also be considered depending on the size of the area and switching time. The Titan RS range of wireless products may be considered for switching the floodlight on and off from the house. As for coming on when the gates open, that sounds like relays etc, definably not my thing, but their is always someone on here who will know about them.

hi kc thanks for that! to be fair i was just picking SON from out the sky there really without thinking of start up currents and types of breakers etc! but i will take your advice on the LED i think!i think it should be on a relay but i just struggling to get my head around it! i hope someone will give me some guidence!!
thanks again!

most electric gates have a contactor that will operate when the gate is opening or closeing, some will give you a free set of contacts to play with others wont, if not watch the control gear as the gates operate open and close and hopefully there will be a free set of contacts for you.. if not add a same coil voltage relay or contactor in parrallel to the coil contacts of the working one this will now give you free swithching contacts to do what you like with...

edit i made this much easyer to understand then as i hit send my son killed the router!!!
