hi, this is my first post.
I doing a simple repair of my wife’s favorite 50w halogen (50w, 30w), desklamp.
I think the transformer died.

it is a 120v to 12v and spits out 50w or 30w current by way of a toggle switch.

no current out of the dc end, might as well replace it. Easier said.

what is a good source in US for a small transformer like this? All that comes up is alibabba. I guess it is chinese afterall.

This is an application-specific type of transformer. It has only one secondary winding, but the output voltage can be selected by a tap in the primary. I am not sure I have ever seen exactly that arrangement in a transformer on general sale, it was probably made for the lighting manufacturer and if they are no longer around, you might have to cannibalise another fixture to get a drop-in replacement.

If you don't use the 30W tapping, you could use a straightforward 12V 50W transformer either wirewound or electronic. For variable output, you could use a dimmable electronic transformer with an inline dimmer in the cord. So there are ways to achieve the same result by different means.

Go to your local electrical parts house or go to Lowe’s or Home Depot. It’s a simple transformer 120vac to 12vac
