Discuss SP&N isolator and double pole isolator in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

same thing IMO. never heard it described as Sp&N. though. just a D/P isolator, 1 pole for L and 1 pole for N.

one's fused and one isn't, according to what you have posted. sounds like the SP&N is the fused one. only the L can be fused.

A switch disconnector has to:-

Provide an effective clearance between the supply and the load appropriate to the voltage applied.
Provide a means of locking in the 'Off' position. (Padlocking)
Provide a true indication of the contact state.
Provide a safe disconnection from the supply even under fault conditions

A double pole switch dosn't have to meet all these set requirements.....

The two terminologies function the same more or less although when talking switch disconnectors you may also have 'early make - late break' on the neutral especially on 3ph... the uses of the 2 terms relates to requirements of the isolation needed...

So for single phase supply, any one of these can be used to isolate the main supply if needed to work. Difference is one with fuse and other without.
