Hi All, not sure if i have posted this in the right forum, but it's going in here now!

A Spanish friend of mine has asked me if i would go over to Spain and rewire his house and his mothers flat. Now i haven't said yes yet, or done any research on their electrical systems over there, but was wondering if anyone has done any work over there before, and if so if they encountered any problems?

Cheers

buenos dias
just about to renovate our cortijo inc rewire. you cannot sign off anything unless you are a spanish registered electrician.
spanish building rules are completely alien to UK thinking because there ain't none.
your problem will be without spanish lingo you will get nowhere slowly.

Muchas gracias. Hablo un poco espanol, pero mis amigos son espanol, so they could do the talking. However, English building regs are hard enough, so maybe i dont want to start dealing with Spanish regs as well!
Cheers for the info.

I live and work in Spain the regs are very different to the uk do you have permision to work in Spain .....just a thought do you know how to test your install to comply with the spanish BT ITC 25 regs

The rules are the rules they are there to make your instalation safe and to stop you from dying. presume marvo gets a lot of call out to Spain????????????????
Worked on Spainish mainland and Gib for eight years. That was just how it was. I didn't say it's okay to make an unsafe installation I said the rules are open to interpretation depending on who you're dealing with, what day of the week it is etc etc. As a UK electrician in Spain they'll be only too keen to ensure your work meets the regs and probably a few extra regs that aren't in the book:)

Gib law onto its self .....just look at their banking practices, might well have been like that when you were here but they are coming more into line, I find they are the same to brits, spanish dutch etc

Well I'm glad to hear it, maybe things got better there with the EU. You're right about Gib, it used to be the wild west of europe in many respects. I miss my holidays in Ceuta and Morocco.

Has it been wired yet!
Why dont theu get and english electrician here in spain to wire it.
1. he will be able to source the materials.2
2. There will be no problems in correspondence in translation verbally or written.
3. English sparks in spain would welcome the work.
4.You shouldnt get ripped off .but make sure they have Uk Quals C& Gs etc as some re invent themselves as soon as they step off the plane here.
5. We can arrange the boletin / certificate with Spanish sparks we know.
