Afternoon all,

Been doing a little reading, not alot I admit, on the regs ammendment with reference to surge protective devices. Not much really to be found and when I asked about them in CEF they said they don't keep them and haven't been asked for them. I'm doing a part re-wire and board change on a terraced house with an overhead supply and wondered if I needed to be including an SPD, it does mention in the osg that instances where SPD may not be required would include among others ''typical urban dwelling'', which would cover the house in question.

Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this one, will give helpline a ring in morning if need be.

Cheers

The training I went on stated that the only "required" SPDs were were there was a risk to life. Haven't got the regs to hand for the section but it was covering things like surgeries and vets.
The UK is in the <25 thunderstorms per year area which reduces the likelihood of requiring SPDs.

Generally i would only fit them in the above areas or when requested by the client for sensitive expensive equipment.

I would not expect to fit a type 1 or 2 SMD in a domestic situation.
