Is a toilet a special location? There is only the toilet in there no basin no other source of water other than the toilet. I'm rewiring the house and it seemed a bit strange to have a switch in the toilet for the light and the extractor fan ( which has an isolator rocker switch on the ceiling). The light switch is positioned about 3 feet of the floor which also is a bit strange. I am going to put a pull switch in for the light and also a pull switch for the fan isolator anyway because I cannot shift the existing cables within the wall which is a lath and plaster partition.

No....in a word......no special requirements.....a toilet can have a normal wall switch and a socket and anything else you care to install.

Cheers for the very quick response. I had a look through the BRB and couldnt find anything but thought I should ask in case I had missed something.

Would a fair assessment of an indoor special location be somewhere you're going to be in a state of undress with wet skin?

Quoted from the NIC Book:

Special locations...

''are those where the risks associated with electric shock are increased due to wetness, absence of, or minimal clothing; presence of earthed metal; arduous conditions; and where other risks, such as that of fire, may also be increased.''

I wasn't trying to be subversive or contraversial (where've my smilies gone?)! Just trying to think of an easy way for noobs to remember what and what isn't a special in a domestic situation.

I dont often have a golden shower in the ****house, ( i save that for the bathroom)

Who are the NIC to reclassify what is and isn't a special location?
I can't remember the last time I went to an amusement arcade or exhibition stand in the buff.
Are they calling a kitchen a special location now? Or anywhere with an open fire?
