Hi there All,

Why if a Domestic Lighting circuit if feed off the unprotected side of a slpit-board does the RCD on the protected side Open if an upstairs light (dimmer) is cycled on and off 8-10 times? The light of course stays On!

I have checked that the correct number of neutrals match the feeds on both sides and they are correct and the RCD appears to have been wired correctly!

I'm baffled as as you can tell I'm not yet fully qualified!

Please help

obviously i can't see the installation, but you might want to try a continuity test between line on the lighting circuit and nuetral on the protected side with the power off and light switches on( and maybe put incandescent bulbs in place for the test, not energy savers) as there may be a borrowed neutral. ie. the line feeds the lighting circuit but some lazy beggar may have taken the nuetral from say the landing light and instead of returning a wire back downstairs, has put the nuetral down to a local socket.hopefully this test will show continuity then you have the pleasure of trying to find which light it is. this gives grief as the rcd see's that power in does not equal power returning and trips.
this is something i've found in the past and maybe worth you looking at.:)
