just a quick question.

my son has reciently purchased his first home and had asked me too check out 2 sockets that are not working (in different rooms)both sockets are dead.
on taking the covers off i find both the sockets are wired up correctly and after tracing the cables back find they have been supplied from spurs but the cables have not been connected, just left in the spur back box (insulation taped in spur back box).

he doesn`t want to hack off the newly plastered walls and i have told him u can`t feed a spur from a spur

so i was looking for any suggestions as how to get around this problem.

i work as a process technican and do some electrical with my job and have my 17th edition, 2391 and 2392.

thanks

your correct then in thinking you cant spur another socket from a existing spur unless you can find where the original is spurred from and fused it down with a 13amp switch fuse spur then you can do multiple spurs on same leg

thanks for your quick replies,
my son doesn`t want to hack the walls or to damage the plaster.

it looks to me that whoever rewired the house has left these cables/sockets dissconnected to comply and get the
electricial certificates and to be connected up at a later date

think the best option is the 13 amp switch fuse spur and it is the easiest fit.
thanks

thanks for the replies,
went with the 13amp fused spur switch afterwards straight off the ring main
and didn`t damage the plaster so my son was happy.

thanks

A house I worked on last week had a junction box between the socket and the spurred socket, then from the junction box to a switch fuse beside a single socket. Was only for an aerial booster though so would have been small current drawn so wouldn't recommend this way as I'd imagine you'll be drawing a bigger current!
