Hey guys, im confused about the allowed number of outlet sockets supplied from a FCU connected to a ring main 2.5mm cable 32a MCB.

I always thought it was unlimited because in the OSG page 68 it says "The number of socket outlets which may be supplied by a fused spur is unlimited".

But in BS7671 Reg 433.1.103 it says "the number of socket-outlets supplied from a fused connection unit is dependent on the load characteristics, having taken diversity into account".

What am i missing lol.

Thanks.

the number is unlimited by virtue of the fact that the spur is fused at 13A. however, a load of over 18A (ish) for any duration of time will pop that 13A thus causing inconvenience. so you should bear in mind the anticipated loads on the spur when deciding how many outlets you fit.

It basically is an unlimited number.

The reason behind that reg is because the FCU is fused at 13A...if you end up putting x-amount of sockets on and there all in use, the chances of exceeding that 13A is pretty high and you'll be forever getting called out too 'half my sockets aren't working' and changing the fuse.

Commonsense should prevail, you as the installer should take into account the situation - what the sockets were intending to be used for.

Thanks guys well i was thinking of running about 10 sockets points from one FCU so my customer could move the 6x2kw convector heaters around the house more easily. lol

I know it spoils it, but for some of my more serious fellow forum members i am joking.
