father In law grabs me and says

"now we've had our extension finished can you help with some outdoor sockets?, they have put an outdoor socket on the side, can you connect the sockets that feed the hot tub back up into it"

So on first glance there is an al weather IP rated twin socket on the side of the wall. It looks like it's probably taken straight from the back of the socket which is on the inside wall of the extension. The hot tub which has been there for over 10 years is still in place with the sockets to plug hot tub still in place.

So my question is (and I think I know the answer) if the outdoor socket is already a spur I can't spur off that again, so is there an IP rated fused spur I can put in place coming off the back of the socket in the interior of the house which then feeds the 2 sockets?

Failing that I'd have to put In a regular FCU internally and then come of the back of that?

without knowing the exact set up or thinking too much about it my first thought would be add a fcu inside next to existing socket then feed this to the the outdoor socket ensuring a suitable IP rating on the outside socket that serves the hot tub. given the wire seems to enter through the wall to the current existing socket, it shouldnt prove to difficult to wire this in. this assumes of course you have appropriate rcd/rcbo protection and the loads are okay. If i recall table 53.4 in the BYB correctly a switched fcu is also suitable as a isolation switch too.

The system is protected by means of an RCD main switch. The new IP rated socket on the outside of the house is also an RCD protected socket so I will probably spur off that to another IP rated socket for the hot tub which will Provide local ADS discrimination.

I'll go ahead with adding a fcu next to the existing socket in the house and then come of the back of that to the exterior ones. I have a suitable fcu and pattress plus a good length of suitable SWA to go between sockets. Partly buried and partly in a flexible conduit.
