Back to basics here, but just want to check I'm not going mad. Was installing a circuit for a boiler yesterday on a new build (it had been accidentally omitted apparently) , and I noticed there was another 'spark' working in the living room. I idled over and asked what he was up to. He said he was adding more sockets as only three had been installed initially. I assumed he would be extending the ring....easy enough to do as loads of floorboards still not fitted. However, he seemed to be using MF JBs under the floorboards. I noticed that the one he had just done had four cables going into it. When he'd gone I had a closer look, and he'd broken into the ring and had two spurs coming out of the JB to double sockets. I've just seen him and asked him about it, and he's adamant it's fine to do this from a JB but not from a socket. I think not! Anyone?

We've established that. I read the OP as whether it breaks any rules.

Nice to see you back guitarist.

I think I'm missing something as I'm not usually the first to notice something! But isn't it breaking the regs by having 2 spurs coming from a junction box on the ring.

I haven't got my 2008(2011) BS7671 but the 2008 (red) BS7671 states "An unfused spur should feed
one single or one twin socket-outlet only" (Appendix 15 , fig 15A )

Irregardless of other issues with what he has done (e.g. number of spurs coming off), the joint box is under the floorboard. This is inaccessible.

I'm a bit confused gigawatt! Its MF, so doesn't need to be accessible?

That refers to the amount of attachments off the actual cable ,ie one 2.5 t&e 1 twin socket,or 2 singles or 1 fcu,not taking 2 cables from 1 jb,agreed though some bits can get confusing lol

Thanks Phil, that makes sense.

you can't have 2 singles off an unfused spur.

LMFAO. True the homeowner was 'project managing' the build. From scratch. I found out today the guy working in the living room on the sockets wasn't a spark at all...it was her son! He did all the plumbing too. I advised her yesterday that what he was doing to the sockets was rather below standard, she just shrugged and said he's done loads of rewires and never had any complaints. I took my money for the boiler circuit and walked. Made my blood boil that she only paid for me cos the gas engineer had insisted.

If i was to respond to that kingeri, i would be banned from the site instantly. 'never had any complaints' does he even have a complaints book, i think not!

Why did i even qualify properly, when mr.smith from next door can do it 'without complaints' so it must be okay.

PUB ANYONE?

The rcd spur being fitted is probably because there wasn't rcd protection of that supply.
