Back to basics here, but just want to check I'm not going mad. Was installing a circuit for a boiler yesterday on a new build (it had been accidentally omitted apparently) , and I noticed there was another 'spark' working in the living room. I idled over and asked what he was up to. He said he was adding more sockets as only three had been installed initially. I assumed he would be extending the ring....easy enough to do as loads of floorboards still not fitted. However, he seemed to be using MF JBs under the floorboards. I noticed that the one he had just done had four cables going into it. When he'd gone I had a closer look, and he'd broken into the ring and had two spurs coming out of the JB to double sockets. I've just seen him and asked him about it, and he's adamant it's fine to do this from a JB but not from a socket. I think not! Anyone?

you can't have 2 singles off an unfused spur.

Absolutely, though I do come across this a lot in older kitchen installations where a DP switch controls 2 singles for a washing machine and a dishwasher.
Thanks for the welcome back happyhippydad. Rather busy atm so don't get much time to visit here.
I think we can get too bogged down in what's "usually done", rather than what is "safe". It wasn't that long ago that electricians were being verbally strung-up for connecting neutral cables in a back-box.....
Personally, I have no issues with using Line enclosures in the loft of a bungalow so that I can send a single cable to each lighting point, though I know that many electricians hate this. I get sick of seeing lighting circuits badly crammed into terminal strip and wrapped in tape due to the owner installing their own light fitting after the electrician has finished the job.

I don't think she noticed the strongly worded note I put on the cert I issued for the small bit of work I did. Just a comment on observations I had made about the rest of the installation. :)
