Hello!

I will be wiring my sisters stable up so she has light in the winter.

It is about 100 metres from the house consumer unit to the stable.

So she only wants lights doesnt even need sockets.

what thickness SWA would need to be dug in? would i work it out using 6a? (lighting circuit)

I got 6mm is this right?

Also when I am taking the power from the Hoouse should i put a new mcb in for it and what rating? 6a?

thanks sorry for the simple questions im just learning still!

i.d run a 6mm from a 32A MCB, then put a separate enclosure in stable, with 6a MCB, 30mA RCD, and room for additional MCB for future possiblities

I'd agree, she may one day want a radio down there, maybe a 2KW heater for when she is down there or to be able to run something off an extension lead. Always leave room to expand, saves digging up the cable again!

but if adding a socket you would need a 16mm cable in, which obviously puts the price right up!

Agree with above and 6mm will give about 9.5amps, although 4mm will still satisfy volt drop for lighting (unless you are trying to light the field). You will need supplementary bonding for any extraneous-conductive-parts in the stable and you will also need 30mA rcd protection so makes sense to have a small submain with it, but you will need to supply it from an unprotected way at the main CU. All switchgear will need to be IP44 rated and out of reach of the horses :)
