Just finished installing a new staircase from 1st floor to loft. I would like to add some feature lighting on both the existing (ground floor to 1st floor) and new (1st floor to loft). I am after a really subtle lighting idea that is only just noticeable, I'm not keen on disco style lighting shoehorned in....

Any ideas?

What ever you decide, make sure you can access the back of the stairs or where ever you install lamps for maintenance. Got a client that has some nice lighting in the staircase, unfortunately it's stopped working and thus far we've been unable to find the supply or drivers.

Good point. It is a must to be able to maintain whatever it is I choose to install. The new staircase is easily moved at the moment so now is the time to install anything on the string or treads. The existing staircase is a little more tricky

Thanks Kropaske. They are too prominent for me. Instead of sunlight source that's really obvious and almost the main feature, I'm looking for a light source that is hidden almost, the light output it more important than its point or origin.

I've installed those when finished with my staircase. Have pir top and bottom. Quite neat and enough light at night
i love seeing wood as it should be, not covered in some crappy paint.

It is not something I have used myself, but this is the idea:

Would very much depend on available clearance, etc, around the top of the stairs.
