staircore lighting

the company we are working for are on a energy saving mission and have been for last few years we have installed a photo switch on staircore the staircore is 4 levels so we find incoming switch wire and divert to photo switch not hard at all so when the the photo cell switches lights off bingo the only problem is there is one light that stays on we have split all lights and belled out all ok the light in question that stys on as voltage on one of the switch wires why i dont no as we have identified the in coming switch wire any advise welcome

must have it's feed from a different point. assuming it's on the same circuit.

Without sounding like I'm trying to insult your intelligence (as I'm not!!) - are you sure that if you've got one light on permanently to a stairwell that it's not a maintained fitting for safety? Or has been made so remotely by some hash-up of batteries onto the switch line.

Personally i never have agreed with switching lighting in stairwells as they are a means of fire escape.were the photocell to fail there would be a problem with a few hundred people heading for the exits

That's a fair point. Ive just done a couple block's where each light has its own individual pir/photocell.Does the trick

Maybe an occupancy sensor would be more appropriate. If one fitting stays illuminated it's probably on some sort of UPS supply for fire or power failure purposes as Rockingit suggested.

there is no ups back up on the staircore lights its got 2 experienced sparks baffled

So what we're basically saying is that you need to trace a cable? As in, the switch cable to that light.

Is this fitting not an emergency fitting? either self-contained or slave of a central battery.

If it's a slave it will have some form of FP cable to it, or is it a self-contained fitting with integral batteries?

Say if the lighting on the stairs was manually controlled & is currently switched off, fire breaks out and people flood the stairs in a mad panic, no one is going to bother finding the light switch.

Emergency lighting is only required to operate when the final lighting circuit fails. If the PIR does fail but the mains is still healthy, BS5266 says this is ok.
