Called in to look at some stairway lighting in an old house split up into six flats with a central stairway and lights not working , looked at the landlords board and found an MK 5650s time delay mcb never come across one before when I switched it from delay to perm all lights on stairs worked so I am assuming that the fault lies in the time delay breaker itself but what I cant get my head round is how this switch works " how does it reset itself " and secondly all the light switches on the landings are of the time-lag variety so this confuses me further surely there is a need for only one time delay in the circuit and if that is the case I should be able to wire the circuit to a conventional mcb and just rely on the time-lag swithches on the landings ? Any pointers would come in handy Thanks. :)

Hi

Stair case lighting in multi ocupants houses(Flats) are desined to run on timers for resons

to save energey and to increase life limit of installed Lights

However if the staircase has no day light windows, the lights has to be maintained 24 hrs

if there is windows u may have 2 controls

Timer to switch the lights on specifiec times normaly 6pm-8am
however there is chance u may have photo cell in place to override timer on winter days

regards

Thanks for your quick response the stairwell lighting is separate from the emergency lighting which is working fine its just the idea of two delay features on the same circuit , one at the board and one at the switches that I cant get my head around maybe its just me being thick and never have seen one of these time delay devices in a consumer unit before. Cheers
