Hi all,

Whilst running some pipework for a bathroom I noticed that the downstairs ring circuit seems to be star wired. What i mean is 2.5 goes from 32a mcb at cu to a conection block under floorboards from there a serparate 2.5 goes to the sockets then from the connector block back to the cu.

It is an old house is this common? I know regs arent retrospective but does this need to be sorted out soon as or do I tell the home owner and leave it be? I am not doing any electrical work in this house but the gas fitter will need to run a spur for the new boiler so would be nice to know your thoughts to keep everyone safe and sort before this may become a bigger problem.

Cheers for any advise in advance

its not what I was thinking what I was thinking of was a 60s thing for prebabricating sounds like you have mrDIY or his friend the local cowboy Id advise getting your friendly local electrician in to do a PIR and get a better view on what would be required

A ring final circuit must start and finish in the consumer unit and be connected to a 30/32a fuse or mcb. p362, 433.1.5

So do as wirepuller says and supply from 20A mcb
