Am seeking for assistance on the above subject. What coukd be the problem when you swith on the start button the motor starts in star and when time for the delta comes the motor stops

Does the delta contactor energise when the timer times out? As spinlondon said, no delta connection to the motor (i.e open circuit). Could do with more info really.

Faulty contactor? blown overload fuses? Possibly drawing too much current on delta and blowing overload fuses which could be too much load for delta but not for star?

sounds like a timer switch over probklem as the motor is starting up but when switching to delta it stops you need to have a visual on the contactors to see what the problem is

Thank you all for your quick responce. Now how do i know that the timer is faulty? What happens is that after the timer has timed and time for the delta contactor has come , the motor will stop running and then when u press the stop button the sound of the de-enegising contactor will be heard(could not operate with open pannel because of Isolator which is the cover locker). The pannel type is telemechanique.

Well this looks like the faithful old bypass .......................but not recommended

Can you get a clamp meter anywhere on the circuit. When the motor starts you should get an high amp reading on the cables feeding the motor in star, this will be for literally a few seconds if that, then it should switch over to delta and you get the running amps.

Can you clamp meter anywhere?

Well thats the hard bit you need to get a visual on the contactors and some people overide the main door interlock so they can see this but in your case if you have not done this before then leave well alone

Was this a working unit and recently failed?

Was this a working unit until someone worked on it?

Has anything been changed?

Have you tested through the motor from the bottom of the Line contactor to the bottom of the Delta contactor?

Is the timer a pneumatic, Line contactor mounted unit... or a seperate unit?

Has the timer been changed?

Are the interlock auxilliaries intact and operate as they should?

Is the Delta contactor coil intact?

Are all wires secure as to the diagram?

Is it this type of unit http://docs-europe.electrocomponents.com/webdocs/08fa/0900766b808fa434.pdf ?

A typical diagram http://docs-europe.electrocomponents.com/webdocs/0f0f/0900766b80f0f062.pdf !

I've often wondered about this too. How useful are earth fault loop impedance tests/measurements when the motor has a VSD? I presume the fault...
