I've recently started an apprenticeship and I'm looking to buying some on-site quality tools and equipment. Any recommendations for brands or any specific items?

My boss recommended this brand, too. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll be investing in this one as soon as I get my wages.


£195 is a bit steep for me atm, but I've found the same one on sale for £165.99.

Watch out for the VAT that makes the one you linked to £199.18.

I would start slightly smaller until you know which tools you are going to need and which brands you favour.

Bahco side cutters and irazola screwdrivers, cheap stanley hammer. Then just buy stuff when you need it. I had the ck bag and found it to be abit small when you start getting more tools like big hacksaws. I now have a dewalt bag from bandq now which is loads better. Also get some 2 pole testers so you can make sure circuits are off before work. And mark your tools so its harder for people to rob.

Have a look on ebay for the wee odds and sods you need like socket re-threaders.

Sad as it may seem but I got my 8m tape measure out of the pound shop and it has lasted well.

Good deal that. Also started out with this set and can highly recommend it, only thing I didn't get along with was the bag, just didn't suit me. Sold it and bought a tote.

Everyone has their favourites, but in my experience Facom, CK, Knipex, NWS all make good tools. Stanley FatMAX VDE drivers also good. Recently tried some Wera drivers and liked them. Estwing for hammers (or at least something where is head and shaft are one piece). Most Bahco is good too but sadly I think they have gone downhill a bit - their adjustable spanners made in Sweden are superb but they have moved production to Spain and the quality has gone downhill - I have heard Irega adjustables are VG but no experience of them. Test kit Fluke or Megger are good, I prefer Megger for MFT but like my T120 also. Power tools, Blue Bosch, Metabo, Makita, Fein won't let you down. Not so keen on DeWalt.

You do really get what you pay for. Some people might say buy cheap so you don't mind so much if it's nicked. I say buy decent gear, mark it with your name, watch it like a hawk, and make sure no b*****d nicks it!
