Im changeing alot of fluroscent bulbs! and starters at work and sometimes the stater turn a nice purple electric colour which looks pretty dangerous. Can anyone tell me why this is?

It's normal and nothing to worry about. It's just the gas in the starter's neon bulb ionising attempting to strike the fluorescent tube.
