Hi,
I'm new to all this, after 22 years service as an RAF aircraft engineer, I'm now looking to start out in the civilian world. My father in laws an Electrician, in England, time served and just about retired, he rewired our house a few years ago, with my assistance, on his advice I compleed a DEI course.
As part of my resettlement package, I completed and passed a Domestic Electrical Installers course at Technique Training in Derbyshire. I even passed my 2391 at the first attempt. When I enrolled on the course I asked if the quals were valid and would allow me to work in Scotland. However, since then it appears that whilst my qualications are valid I need to complete my SVQ level 3 and CEC before I can gain full recognition as an electrician. To do this it appears that I need to employed by a select or NICEIC registered company.
I'm well aware that I have a very limited practical experiance and fully appreciate that there is nothing better completing a full apprentiship, I'm 40 and not wanting to spend years at college, I intend to find a job and work in my spare time to gain and build on my electrical expericance and knowledge whilst still bringing in a wage from other employment. I'm also aware of my own limits and abilities and want to stay within the regulations. All I am wanting to do is work in a domestic environment and within my own limits and experiance, fitting lights, fault diagnosis etc.
Can I work legally in my spare time at weekends etc on domestic propertys for friends etc without being SJIB registered and without the CEC? and what is the best and simplest way to go about gaining the extra qualifiaction? the scottish system appears very complex.
Any help and advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
