I was just wandering how long it had taken you lads tofully establish yourselves. I have been selfemployed for 2 months now and still struggling to get regular work, and have no solid contacts ie.builders. Any tips finding work would be appreciated thanks

Google business link and take the free course they offer covers everything you need to know about running your own business.

As a general rule first year a loss, second year break even third year profit. Thats based on all the money you have invested so far. Need also to take into account the ressession.

All I can suggest is every job you do give it 150% that way you will start getting work because other people have recommended you.

Good luck

Team up with another sole trader e.g. a gas fitter and bounce work off each other.........not too bad where I am as this is inspection heaven...........loads of static caravans, and bring on the PIR's for caravans and motor homes next year, if your into inspection this is one to keep an eye on.......

Another top tip is get 5000 business cards printed and just drop them where ever you can. Dont be tight, hand ont a few to anyone who asks. Anyone who just hands out one card at a time either has too much work on, or didnt get enough. 5000 will cost you £80 ish from vista and forget the freebies as you want to set a professional image from day one (appologies to those who get the free ones  )

Get on tinternet and list with as many free listings as you can e.g. google, yell, and local business listings. Watch out for marketing cals within 24 hrs though as they are trying to up-sell your add. The more you list with the quicker you will march up the listings.
