Having read the news on what is going to be required for Part P scheme membership from July, I'm wondering what to do.

Over the past months I've been getting ready to go it alone. I've been steadily building up my collection of test equipment and tools while getting up to date with the 2382-10 and 2391-10 courses.

I've come from an electrical background, having trained in electrical maintenance (EITB) when I left school, which involved plenty of conduit and pyro work.
At the time, I helped out a spark with some house bashing on weekends.
I'm qualified HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
My work was design for 2 years, fault finding for 8 years, then installation for 2 years and I've done inspection and testing work for the past 12, though not on installations within the scope of BS7671.

So with that experience, I found the 2391 not too difficult.

My intention was to get set up once I received the results for the 2391, get sufficient work under my belt and apply to one of the schemes (probably NAPIT) in about 6 months time.
Now it seems I'm not going to be able to get in at that point, so if I understand this right, I'm going to need to carry on doing the non-notifiable works for 2 years while working on the 2357, as applications are no longer being accepted for the 2330.

Would I need to do a L2 and L3, or could I just go straight in and do L3 with the underpinning knowledge I have?

Also, I've done a lot of domestic appliance repairs in my time, but if I was to do this as part of my electrical business, I take it I would need a PAT testing qualification as I'd need to carry out those tests and inspections on anything I'd repaired.

Any advice appreciated,

Simon.

If you found that easy, you should consider this
City & Guilds Course: 2391-20
Level 3 Certificate in Design,
Erection and Verification of Electrical Installations
(Previously named City And Guilds 2400)
